On Twitter, a woman using the handle @justsociety4all has accused embattled former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremmadu of laundering N400 million meant for a renal center.
“Some years ago, the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital special project team approached the Deputy Senate President (Ike Ekweremmadu) to help them expedite funding for a project in the Hospital through a Government intervention project,” she explained.
“He requested that they submit their proposal. They did, and the amount was N400 million for the Renal Centre. The N400 million was intended to be used to construct the structure, purchase equipment, and send a few doctors abroad for renal transplant and other special renal emergency training.
“Ike Ekeremmadu requested that the money be doubled to N800 million, with the extra N400 million going to him to facilitate the release of the funds.
“Ike Ekeremmadu later facilitated the release of 50% of the fund and diverted the entire amount without UNTH’s knowledge.
“After a long wait, UNTH made contact and was told they needed to submit a progress report for the project status in order to access the remaining 50%. However, they had nothing to show for the initial 50% and had no idea that oga Deputy Senate President had taken N400m and moved,” she tweeted.
“On May 5th of this year, Ike Ekeremmadu will be sentenced for attempting to perform a kidney transplant in the UK for her daughter whose kidney had failed… we all know the story.
“Ike Ekeremmadu stole N400 million meant for the construction of a Kidney Centre in his state, where the daughter could have received a transplant without having to travel abroad and face the stringent laws governing organ transplantation.
“Who says God isn’t amusing? Who is this individual? Karma is true,” She said.
