Rukayat Shittu, a candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been proclaimed the winner of the Kwara State House of Assembly election in the Owode Onire State Constituency of Asa Local Council.
It was discovered that the APC candidate outperformed her Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, winning the election on Saturday with a 7,521 to 6,957 vote difference.
She was one of the youngest candidates in Nigeria to run for and be elected to office as a result.
At the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), she served as Senate President of the Congress of NOUN Students (CONS) and is a journalist.
In order to earn her Senior Secondary School Certificate in 2011, Rukayat attended Baptist Primary School LGEA in Ilorin and Government Girls Day Secondary School in Oko Erin. She then went on to Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, which is a branch of Bayero University Kano, where she graduated in 2015 with a diploma in mass communication and islamic studies.
Following graduation, she enrolled in a fashion institute. She was accepted in 2017 and received her degree in 2022 from the National Open University of Nigeria.
She was the head of the news division for Just Event Online, a Kwara-based online publication.
